Kidnap ideas

Through reading through many articles about fairly recent kidnappings, I found 3 that I thought we could pull ideas from to piece into our plot.

From here, we could take the part of eleven young people being kidnapped in broad-daylight, but the cons of wanting to do so and getting this across on camera means having a lot of actors and from previous experience, we know that using multiple actors causes problems as there's clashes with their schedules etc, but if we had multiple actors it doesn't necessarily mean that we'd have to have them together all at the same time, because it's a trailer that we are creating, we will not need consecutive scenes so they can be filmed seperately and at different times if necessary, just as long as there wasn't serious changes of lighting for example.

A gang kidnapping a group of innocent people; we could use this and use other ideas that we come up with from other research, like the innocent people having to fight to survive (Hunger Games inspiration), but again we would have the issue of too many actors, and also if there was a very complex story line, we would need very strong actors who could get their messages across well on screen when we film. Also, things like cars would most likely need to be included to make things seem realistic but this would come as an issue too because we don't have cars in hand that we could use for filming.

This whole report seems as though it could be part of a film, and I think that we could use a news report within our trailer, as if it was acted well, it could seem really realistic, and this way we could get the plot of our story across to the audience without the main characters telling them, almost like a narrative.

I think that as a group, if we decide to use a gang story line, we should gather together ideas from different gang kidnaps, brainstorm them, and mix different ideas together to come up with one that would come out most realistically on camera.

Taken Kidnapping Scene

  • Close-up shot of the female character, shows the panic on her face, allows the audience to have a clear idea of how she is feeling and panicking in a situation as worrying and scary as what she is currently going through at the time of this shot.
  • Diegetic sound of her speaking on the phone to her father emphasizes her panic
  • Non-diegetic abrupt sound accompanies the cross-cut between her and her father when she realises that he friend, Amanda, is being taken.

  • The close-up shot of her father, makes his emotions clear even though he seems to stay calm through out the panic that he daughter is going through, most likely to try and keep his daughter calm is such a situation that would scare anyone, as this is what would happen realistically.
  • Diegetic sound of the phone conversation is continued through the scenes, his voice is very deep which enhances his masculinity as later in the film he takes on the role of killing the enemies.

  • Reaction shot the character shows the fear that she's feeling, her reaction to her unexpected kidnapping at this point.
  • The diegetic sound of her piercing scream shocks the audience, and the conversation of the kidnappers is in a foreign language which most of the audience would not understand which leaves them in suspense as they don't know what they're talking about or plotting to do.
  • The cross-cutting becomes a more abrupt as the shots become shorter, this works well to create tension and panic.
  • From what we can see, the kidnappers are wearing all black, making them mysterious to us as the audience.

  • As he hears his daughter being kidnapped and takes matters into his own hands, the close up shot slowly becomes a low angle shot which puts him higher than us which makes us think that his power is now enforced which is true as later in the film he manages to kill the 'bad guys'.
  • When the shot is a close-up, we can see his emotions change from staying calm to panicking as he sits in silence and all we can hear is the suffering of his daughter from the other end of the phone.
  • The diegetic sound later included of him speaking down the phone, we hear him make the threat that he will find them and kill them, which foreshadows the oncoming events of the film.
