Kidulthood

The trailer starts with a simple plain black background and a simple white font with the movie title, ’Kidulthood’. This makes the writing stand out and really makes the audience focus on the title as there is nothing distracting in the background. It is also positioned in the centre of the shot meaning the audience’s eye would naturally fall where the title is placed and so the title will catch their eye even more.

The Dj then spins the record which flashes showing the main characters in the movie with an establishing shot which sets the scene following shots of black hooded youths.

The first youth is shown in an eye line close up letting the audience see his emotions making him a vulnerable character. His hood is also out of his face again allowing us to see his face making him more open.  Whereas the second youth shown is shown at a low angle making him look like the superior one of the two. He also has his hood over his face covering his eyes taking away any emotion we may feel towards the character. Both characters are shown wearing black jackets and a grey hood. This shows the audience they will most probably have some kind of connection. Also using the knowledge gained from the shots of the two characters we would assume that the character shot in the low angle will have some kind of power over the other.

There is also a lot of close up shot of different items stereotypically associated with urban parts of London. These shots also show the audience the genre of the film and let the audience know that it is an urban gang film.

This shot shows a girl smoking. The girl is looking straight out to the audience which could make the audience feel slightly intimidated towards her. She also wearing huge gold hoops which are another thing stereotypically associated with chavvy, urban girls.

Lighting

There isn't very much use of lighting within the trailer but during the parts where crime or violence is taking place, for example, when Trife is getting beaten up the lighting is very dark and dim whereas during the parts where they are outside in the city, the lighting seems to be very dim which symbolises the darkness of the film and what is going on. Right at the beginning of the trailer it shows a party taking place where extra lighting has been added to show the excitement of being in that sort of environment.

Sound

The mood of the film is set within the trailer based on the music played. The main sound we hear is the non digetic rap music used in the background along with the occasional diegetic speech from the characters. This music is very upbeat which keeps the audience engaged and focused, added to the music are sound effects which also keep the audience engaged as it not only shows the level of violence within the film but also a view into what the film is about and what kind of film it is for example gunshot like sounds.

Editing
The editing is mainly formed of quick jump cuts from one scene to another in a fast paced motion with some cuts including fades or flashes although the whole trailer is dominated with flashing scenes.
