Photoshop - Colour Manipulation

Photoshop - Colour Splash
  • This is the original image which is a shot from the London riots which I dragged from my downloads folder

  • To unlock the layer which is the original picture so that it can be edited I had to unlock it and rename it, I renamed it Layer 0

  • I duplicated the layer so that I could edit the layer above the background layer, as I was trying to make a black and white image I used the new layer to be the black and white image while the background remained unchanged.

  • To make this layer black and white I adjusted the picture which changed the image to black and white, this makes the whole image appear black and white, however, this is what makes the effect happen.

  • By using the eraser tool, you can erase the black and white effect, bringing the colour back to the black and white picture, you erase the area you wish to bring the colour back to.

  • This is the new image, as you can see, the surrounding area is black and white and the bit which I wanted to focus on is in colour, this increases its impact as the fire becomes the focus and also it stands out more.
