1 Day Trailer Deconstruction
- One of the conventions of an urban drama is the establishing shot which sets the scene of where this urban drama will take place, as you can see above they have used a wide establishing shot which captures the whole city so try and capture that 'concrete jungle' effect, it makes the city seem as it is a vast landscape where many things can happen but however, as it is an urban drama you assume most of the things are going to be bad.
- By using bandannas in this film you have automatically associated it with gang violence, as bandannas are used by gangs in current day to represent their gang colours and to show what gang they are a part of/what area they represent. As you can see in the screenshot they have assembled a large group of black youths in addition to the use of the bandanna therefore this film is highly influenced by the concept of gangs.
- The fashion in this trailer is also very current in accordance to people who live in urban regions, things such as hoodies, caps and stylish jackets, this is to once again to allow the viewers to associate these people with youths who live in these areas.
- This film takes the conventions of urban dramas and kicks it up a notch, normally in urban dramas you see more things such as petty crime involving knifes and maybe a hand gun if anything, however in this film, they use weapons such as shot guns which are extremely hard to find in this country due to the laws we have in place within the UK, therefore it makes the viewer expect more danger and more action in this film than in a common urban drama.
- The sound used follows conventions also as it uses 'grime' music, which is commonly associated with urban areas as their main genre of music, due to the fast paced/hyped up nature of grime music, it is perfect for urban dramas as it goes along with the faced pace actions such as shootouts and fights in urban dramas as well as the fact that it is produced locally, all of these reasons together make it fit perfectly with these urban dramas.
