Survey Analysis
- Judging by the trend shown in the graph the majority of people have some sort of interest in urban dramas which gives us a sense that because people already have some sort of interest in the genre beforehand, they would have a positive outlook on the trailer before viewing it.
- An interesting thing is that an equal amount of people chose all three options, which meant that it would be best to incorporate both a London setting and an estate setting as it would make both parties happy.
- The majority of voters picked that they wanted a male protagonist, which is very understandable as if we wish to conform to the conventions of an urban drama, it would be better to use a male protagonist as then we can incorporate scenes such as drug dealing and it would appear more menacing
- Due to the different type of stereotypes used in urban dramas we chose to ask whether they wanted an accurate use or exaggerated use and certain films such as adulthood gets a realistic view of the London suburbs. The result we got was that many people wanted a realistic representation of youths in London as it makes the overall project look more professional and in some cases people would be able to relate to it.
- An interesting response that we got here is that more people wanted gang scenes rather than a protagonist against gangs, I believe this is because to heighten the suspense and peril within the trailer, it is better to show current situations going on in society at the moment and one of them is gang violence, I believe this ties into the question before asking how realistic the viewers wanted the trailer to be.
- The majority of people wanted Drugs to be the influence that causes all of the action that happens within the film, this was as we expected as we believed that violence would be the only other aspect that can cause all of the scenes that will happen within the trailer, so drugs was a good choice by the people who complete the survey.
- The vast majority of people said that they preferred the option of a bad protagonist trying to be good, this shows that they would rather a protagonist that they can feel for and sympathise with which would be very hard to do with a protagonist who was a straight out bad person, the audience wouldn't be able to connect to someone like that.
- As we expected many people preferred to use local music which was the fast paced UK grime, we also believed this would be the best type of music to use and this would give our trailer the rough type feel that we were looking for. Also, as we are using a montage this would also be best as the fast pace music could easily match the pace of the montage
- Another thing we expected is that one word titles have a much larger effect on people that phrases or titles that are way too long as the survey shows, this is because in the past, films such as shank or adulthood have a brilliant use of the one word title, which doesn't make you try and assume too much of the storyline, therefore you are more open to interpretation when it comes to the actual trailer.
