Evaluation Question 2 - Ella

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I think our coursework, as a whole is very effective in informing our audience about our film. As a combination I believe that our coursework links together well and show our genre they way wanted it to come across.

To initially achieve this I did research in to 'Kidulthood' and Fishtank by deconstructing the trailers. This gave us an insight as to what things we may want to use.

Colour Scheme

Our colour scheme is black, white and red with are colour used for urban drama movies. We chose these colours in particular as they represent the three main themes of our film - death, innocence and danger. We got the idea of having a seen title from the film ‘Shank’. We liked how the title stood out on the poster and the website and drew us into it visually.

Typography

Our typography for our title is stereo-typically big bold block writing. This helps our title to stick out from our image, which is the focus.  We decided to make our title more interesting than the plain one in shank and so added dirty black splatter over it. This made it look like mud splatter from a puddle on the street after rain making our title look dirty. This was the effect we wanted from our title to link in with the estate used in the poster and website image. By having this title it fits in with the genre well as it fits the stereotypes of other films we have seen such as shank and bullet boy but with our own spin on it. BLOG POST ON MAKING TITLE

Tagline

We also wanted to make sure that our tagline followed conventions but also stood out and could be easily related to our film. We compared taglines and finally came up with 'When you're stuck between a rock and a hard place the ends is the only answer'. This was perfect as although i met the convention of having the theme of the film summed up in one or two words in the tagline (the ends) it also stands out from other taglines we researched. We incorporate this in all three aspects of our coursework. In our film and poster we add it in above the title in a bold red font so it can be seen but also link in with our colour scheme.

Location
After deconstructing many urban drama trailers we got a clear idea that locatation was something that was very important to this genre. We did great research into finding a location for our trailer as well as using our survey for inspiration.

We then decided that a good use of location would be to use the estate that we found but also have shots of London, for example - red busses. When evaluating our filming days  We felt our location was great for the shots we were trying to achieve. the only drawback of the location was this it was outside and so the transition from light to dark happened fairly quickly and so filming took a few weeks for everything we wanted.

Our location for our time lapse was important too. we found that the location we used for filming was not the right location for the time lapse because we wanted a high rise flat. After extensive research we found the perfect location resulting in this time lapse.
