Evaluation Question 3 - Ella

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Audience feed back is very important in regard to our coursework as we need criticism from our piers to be able to better our coursework. Due to the fact our target audience is teenagers from 15 to 19 we got people of this age range to help us with our feed back.

Survey

We did two kind of audience feedback. The first was a survey before we started to create our coursework and the second was comment on our first draft of our trailer. From the survey answers we found that we had a similar view of urban drama films to the people that completed the survey for us and that our ideas linked into the answers we got.

For example they thought we should have a male protagonist. Use accurate stereotypes and include drugs and violence all of these we used in our trailer. We were very undecided on our title.

Our survey also helped us with choosing our title. More people wanted a one-word/short title or a title that linked into the film so we linked the two together and used the title LDN which is short and sweet but also links in with our location too.

One thing we decided against from the results of our survey was the use of gang scenes. A few people said the use of gang scenes in the trailer would be good to use but we decided that with our resources it would be hard to show it effectively and so instead used the gang a looming, unseen character with in the trailer.

YouTube Feedback
Our second audience feedback opportunity was to upload our first draft of the trailer and see what thing we did well and what thing people thought we should change. We got a large range of feedback from this.

The majority said they enjoyed the trailer and that the genre was clear. They also said we included good shots and chose a good locations. One of the comments said that our ending was too abrupt. We took this on board and changed some of our shots around to make the ending a better and less sudden.

Another comment said that some of transitions were not very smooth so we took this on board and took a closer look at our editing making sure the transitions flowed seamless from one into the next.

One of the other things that we took from our feedback was that people like our grainy black and whit effect that we used. Many of the people that commented said that they would like even more use of it within the trailer. We liked this idea and so went back and added it into a few more shots. We paid careful attention into making sure we didn’t over use it though.
Location
Location was a big thing that was important for us as urban dramas are always recognised b the location in which they are shot. When it came to location we had three options. we could shoot at an estate, in London or both. We decided to use this as one of the questions in our survey. As you can see the survey told us that people were equal in regard to where it would be filmed.
From this we decided to use our knowledge and film in an estate as our primary location but also include clips and shots of things related to London like red buses. when looking at filming this was perfect as there was graffiti and flats in the estate we filmed in. Once we had finished filming we started to take test shots for our poster (as shown below).

MORE PHOTOSSSSSSSSS

We showed these to some of our peers and as a whole they said that when it came to photos for the website and poster the location did not leave any kind of impression on them. One of the group suggested that we use high rise flats as our 'iconic' picture for the focus.

We then went to find some high rise flats for our picture. we found this estate (see left) and found that it was perfect for what we were looking for. Once we had found this location we were able to take the pictures we needed taking framing to make sure we had got every detail we needed in.
